eBay Out Door #2203

eBay says I completed my 2203rd transaction last week and I’ve sold £27,319.82 ($36004.78) of wares, so why is my house STILL full of junk?

Is it because as fast as unloved hoard pieces get sold they are immediately replaced by the latest object of desire in a never ending loop???…..could be !!

Recent departures….Kona Bash Ring, Worlds Longest Bar Ends (Profile XC Sierra), NOS Ringle Moby

Borg Key AKA eBay Flip Key Fail

So you’ve got an old Astra G AKA Mk4 and you’re jealous of the Astra H/Mk 5 dudes with their fancy schmancy flip keys and you see a Flip Key Conversion kit on fleabay and you spring for one.

You get him in the mail, take him to your Go to key cutter buddy then and spend 20 minutes trying to get all the tiny pieced assembled on your kitchen table. Satisfied you run out to your car ‘flip’ the key and feel all cool.

Fast forward less than 12 months, you go to flip your key and it doesn’t quite come out, but with a bit of goading it flips out and off you go. Repeat this process several times and what you are not noticing are hairline cracks in the monkey metal shit that the hinge is made from until one day >>SNAP<< the whole thing snaps off in your ignition.

Luckily for me I was at work and quickly rigged up a Borg Key bodge – Mini Mole Grips to attach the key, door remote zip tied into plastic bag and immobiliser chip zip tied into front section of bag….yes it will get me home where I can spend 20 minutes swapping all the bits back into my old style Vauxhall key body that I saved…

Lesson? Avoid the cheap shit on eBay

Out Door 2011

I already should have sold a bunch of stuff this year but I am super lame with such tasks normally, preferring to indulge in other more exciting projects and hobbies and just ‘talking the talk’ when it comes to ACTUALLY photographing bike parts and selling them

This guy was a REAL super lazy deal. I had stripped my little M1000 Cannondale maybe a year ago and sold off the Manitou III’s and probably a few other bits too and Mr Frame was just hanging up in the Man Cave alongside a bunch of other frames that I keep telling myself I will build and ride one day when out of the blue I got an email via the Goatsurfer website asking about the M1000 and would I consider selling. He was a new member of RetroBike from Germany.

I said “yeah maybe, but I have to remove the stuck M900 brake bushes first” and dithered around for a few weeks before taking some pix and sending them him, along with serial numbers and frame measurements. Time passed and negotiations were about complete then I had to leave the country for a while but guess what, I pulled my finger out my ass and shipped the frame this week and today he landed in Germany…his new home, so look out for a project build on RetroBike sometime in the new year.

Now to get rid of some more crap…..
